The roadway develops new functions at INES

The collaboration between COLAS Group and CEA Tech at INES has reached new milestones this year with the launch of the Wattway Pack and the development of the Flowell dynamic light marking system.

The joint project focuses on the development of new functions directly integrated into the roadway, such as photovoltaic power generation or dynamic road marking by integrating LEDs.

The manufacturing process for Flowell light marking slabs was transferred at the beginning of 2020 to the company that will manufacture them on behalf of Colas.

In August 2020, CEA Tech completed the installation of a demonstrator equipped with new Wattway photovoltaic modules at the entrance to the INES site. The installation was perfectly executed thanks to the coordination of the CEA/CST/Wattway’s teams and their subcontractor.

The aim of this new experiment is to study the influence of installation conditions on the mechanical behavior of the new versions of modules. By passing over these paving slabs, the visitors and employees of the site therefore contribute to their development and improvement.

During the autumn, other demonstrators of photovoltaic and LED-equipped paving slabs are to be installed on the INES site.

Since 2019, this project is part of the ITE INES.2S of which COLAS is one of the founding members. INES.2S is an Energy Transition Institute supported by the CEA which brings together four companies (2CA, COLAS, CNR and RENAULT), the training platform INES PFE, the University Savoie Mont-Blanc and the CEA. The ITE INES.2S benefits from French government aid under the Programme d'Investissements d'Avenir (ANR-10-IEED-0014-01).
